Naming of Compounds

— If compound is of a metal and non-metal:

• metal name comes first
• non-metal ends with '-ide'

— If compound is of 2 metals:

• if hydrogen included, hydrogen named first
• no hydrogen, lower group number element named first
• name of the other element ends with '-ide'

Formulae of Structure of Compounds

— in giant structure, formula displays the ratio

— in molecular compound, formula displays how many atoms bonded in each molecule

Valency

— The number of atoms loss or gained in order to form a compound

— To name the formula of a compound, balance the valency by adding a coefficient
